About The Aluminum Transportation Group

Overview

The Aluminum Transportation Group (ATG) communicates the benefits of aluminum in transportation applications to help accelerate its penetration through research programs and related outreach activities. Our mission is to serve member companies and act as a central resource for the automotive and commercial vehicle industries on aluminum issues.

As the issues of automotive safety and fuel economy become more important to the industry and their customers, auto aluminum will continue to play a vital role in the design and engineering of cars and light trucks. The ATG continues to promote research and programs that will highlight the positive automotive safety, enhanced vehicle performance, environmentally-friendly benefits and increasing growth of automotive aluminum.

Stakeholders in the commercial vehicle industry are also facing several challenges today from rising energy costs, a weak economy and the growing concern over greenhouse gas emissions. As federal mandates continue to add weight to heavy-duty vehicles, there has never been a better time for manufacturers, fleet and owner-operators, shippers and legislators to begin exploring the options that alternative material choices offer. In 2009, the ATG expanded its mission to include commercial vehicles to help communicate the benefits lightweighting with aluminum offers the industry including the ability to increase payload capacity; lower maintenance costs; reduce fuel consumption; reduce greenhouse gas emissions; improve durability and corrosion resistance; and produce a higher resale value.

The Aluminum Association

The Aluminum Association, Inc. is the trade association for producers of primary aluminum, recyclers and semi-fabricated aluminum products, as well as suppliers to the industry. Based in Arlington, Virginia, the Association provides leadership to the industry through its programs and services which aim to enhance aluminum's position in a world of proliferating materials, increase its use as the "material of choice," remove impediments to its fullest use, and assist in achieving the industry's environmental, societal, and economic objectives. Member companies operate about 200 plants in the U.S and many conduct business worldwide.

International Aluminium Organizations

The European Aluminium Association (EAA) represents the aluminium industry in Europe, encompassing primary aluminium producers, downstream manufacturers, producers of recycled aluminium and national aluminium associations. Through environmental and technical expertise, economic and statistical analysis, scientific research, education and sharing of best practices, public affairs and communication activities, it aims to promote aluminium's contribution to sustainable development while maintaining and improving the image of the industry, of the material and of its applications.

The International Aluminium Institute (IAI) is the global forum of the world's aluminium producers. The Institute has 25 member companies and they are represented on the IAI Board of Directors by their top leadership. Together the IAI member companies represent more than 80 percent of world’s primary aluminium production. Through the IAI, the aluminium industry aims to promote a wider understanding of its activities and demonstrate its responsibility in relation to all key sustainability issues - environmental, health, safety and recycling.
